ActiveMQ - Server to browsers messaging

Overview

RomexSoft and IT department of TV channel News "24" integrated Apache ActiveMQ messaging into web portals owned by Lux TV and Radio Company CJSC, TV channel News "24".

Browsing of the web becomes more interactive and dynamic. Nowadays web portals should deliver hottest news and updates to their readers online. The content is delivered without interactions from users and of course without page reloading.

There was technical challenge to find technology and solutions to fulfill the following criteria:

• Immediate content delivery from the web portal to more than 10 thousand online users
• The content pushed from the server to browsers should not be blocked by firewalls and proxies
• Messaging part of the web portal should be run on a single physical server instance

Based on the above mentioned criteria we chose the Apache ActiveMQ messaging and Integration Patterns server. In our implementation messages are streamed to web browsers using pure DHTML, allowing web browsers to be part of the messaging fabric.
