The AWS Free Tier for Amazon RDS offer provides free use of Single-AZ Micro DB instances running MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server Express Edition. The free usage tier is capped at 750 instance hours per month. Customers also receive 20 GB of General Purpose (SSD) database storage and 20 GB of backup storage for free per month.
Important consideration: the Free Tier is available for 12 months from the date your AWS account is activated. And If your usage exceeds the Free Tier limits, standard pay-as-you-go rates will apply.
Amazon VPC allows you to run RDS instances inside a private, isolated network within the AWS Cloud. You can control IP ranges, subnets, route tables, and gateways enabling precise control over connectivity and security.

Yes, all Amazon RDS engines are HIPAA-eligible and can be used to build applications that store and process protected health information (PHI), provided you have an executed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with AWS.
