What Distinguishes Romexsoft’s Architecture Assessment

Our company holds AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner status with a DevOps competency. Assessments are conducted by certified engineers who operate AWS environments at production scale.

Grounded Recommendations_128

Grounded Recommendations

The assessment output reflects how AWS environments are actually built and operated. We consider technical dependencies, implementation effort, team capacity, and delivery risk so that proposed improvements are practical, not just architecturally correct.

Clear View of Trade-Offs_128

Clear View of Trade-Offs

We explain the implications behind each recommendation, including the impact on cost, resilience, performance, security, and operational complexity. This helps your team understand not only what should change, but why one option may be more suitable than another.

Guidance Matched to Your Needs_128

Guidance Matched to Your Needs

We recommend the level of architecture and operational maturity your workload actually needs. The goal is to strengthen the environment without introducing unnecessary services, processes, or enterprise-scale complexity that would be difficult to maintain over the long term.

Why Organizations Invest in Architecture Assessment

Certain business and technical events create a natural need to reassess whether the current AWS architecture remains fit for purpose.

Pre-growth Review

Before scaling infrastructure or onboarding significant new workload, teams want confidence the foundation holds. An assessment surfaces structural decisions that become expensive to change later.

Incident Follow-up

After a significant outage, performance degradation, or unexpected cost spike, an assessment identifies root architectural causes rather than surface-level symptoms.

Team Transition

When infrastructure ownership changes hands – through acquisition, team restructuring, or a new engineering lead – a review documents the environment and surfaces inherited risks.

Compliance Preparation

Ahead of audits, certifications, or due diligence reviews, companies need a clear view of their security posture, control gaps, and areas requiring remediation before formal scrutiny begins.

How the Architecture Assessment Service Works

The review runs as four defined phases, not an open-ended audit. Each phase has a fixed output, so at any point your team knows what's been reviewed, what hasn't, and what happens next.

01
Discovery and Scoping

Our team works with the client’s stakeholders to define the assessment boundaries, workload scope, and access requirements. The team reviews available architecture documentation, diagrams, and recent incident history to understand the workload’s business context, growth trajectory, and known pain points before accessing the environment.

02
Architecture Review

Our engineers conduct a hands-on review of the AWS environment, including infrastructure design, service dependencies, security controls, operational tooling, account configuration, and cost structure. Automated tools support the review, while experienced professionals validate findings, assess context, and identify issues that scanners alone may miss.

03
Findings Analysis

The assessment team evaluates each finding based on its severity, business impact, and implementation complexity. Findings are organized into immediate risks, medium-term improvements, and longer-term architectural recommendations to help the client determine what to address first.

04
Report Delivery

Romexsoft delivers a structured assessment report with prioritized findings and actionable recommendations. During the readout session, the team reviews the key results with the client’s engineering and leadership stakeholders, answers questions, and aligns on the next steps.

05
Remediation Planning (Optional)

For clients ready to address the findings, we can translate the assessment results into a practical remediation plan. The recommendations can also serve as the foundation for an ongoing managed AWS operations services engagement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is an AWS Architecture Assessment different from an AWS Well-Architected Review?

An AWS Well-Architected Review follows a defined AWS methodology for evaluating a specific workload against the six pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework. It uses a consistent set of questions to identify where the workload does not align with AWS architectural best practices.

Romexsoft’s AWS Architecture Assessment Services can use the Well-Architected Framework as a reference while extending the review around the client’s specific concerns and decisions. An assessment can be shaped around a broader business or technical objective, such as preparing for growth, investigating recurring operational issues, reviewing a legacy environment, or planning architectural change.

How long does an AWS Architecture Assessment take?

Most assessments take two to three weeks from initial scoping to final report delivery. The timeline depends on the number of workloads in scope, architectural complexity, cross-account dependencies, and the depth of analysis required. Larger environments or assessments covering several business-critical systems may be delivered in phases to keep the review focused and avoid delaying high-priority findings.

What does Romexsoft need from the clients before the assessment begins?

We typically need three things before the assessment begins: context, access, and stakeholder availability.

First, we ask for a clear view of the workload being assessed, including its business purpose, critical dependencies, current pain points, expected growth, and any upcoming changes such as audits, migrations, product launches, or scaling initiatives. This helps the assessment focus on the risks and decisions that matter most to the business.

Second, we review any available technical materials, such as architecture diagrams, account structures, infrastructure documentation, incident summaries, monitoring reports, and existing remediation plans. Complete documentation is not required, but whatever is available helps us understand the environment faster and validate how the architecture is intended to operate.

Third, the client provides secure, time-limited access to the relevant AWS accounts and services. In most cases, read-only permissions are sufficient for the assessment. The required access is agreed during scoping and limited to the workloads and services included in the review.

We also recommend involving the people who understand the environment best. Their input is especially useful when we need to clarify architectural decisions, operational constraints, known trade-offs, or past incidents.

Can assessment findings feed into a managed operations engagement?

Yes. The assessment can provide the technical baseline for an ongoing managed AWS operations engagement. Romexsoft can translate the findings into a phased improvement backlog that defines priorities, dependencies, ownership, and implementation order. Instead of starting managed operations with a generic onboarding process, the engagement begins with a documented understanding of the environment, its current risks, and the areas requiring attention.

The initial scope may include resolving priority findings, improving monitoring and operational visibility, strengthening resilience, standardizing infrastructure management, or introducing more consistent cloud governance. Once the immediate improvements are addressed, the engagement can continue with routine operations, incident support, ongoing optimization, and periodic architecture reviews.
